Senior Aerodynamics Surface Design Engineer - F1

At BOLD, we design and build the next generation of high-performance battery systems for the world’s most demanding industries — from Formula 1 and hypercars to aerospace, marine and defense. Our mission: to deliver energy systems where every millisecond and every degree matter.

As a Senior Aerodynamics Surface Design Engineer, you'll collaborate closely with Aerodynamicists, Design Engineers, CFD Analysts, Manufacturing, Testing, and Development Teams. Your role serves as a link between departments, guaranteeing seamless integration of aerodynamic design within the wider engineering and operational functions of the Formula 1 team. Additionally, you'll closely collaborate with design engineers to transform aerodynamic theories into intricate CAD models. Engaging with Computational Fluid Dynamics analysts for simulations and analyses will be an integral part of your daily responsibilities. Effective collaboration with CFD specialists or simulation engineers is pivotal in ensuring the validation of designs.

What You Will Do

  • Designing Surfaces: Creating and designing aerodynamic surfaces using CATIA, focusing on components like wings, diffusers, sidepods, and other aerodynamic elements.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Working closely with aerodynamicists, engineers, and other team members to understand performance requirements, constraints, and evolving design objectives.
  • CAD Modeling: Developing detailed (CAD) models and prototypes for aerodynamic surfaces, ensuring they meet aerodynamic targets and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Optimization: Iteratively refining designs based on simulation results, wind tunnel testing, and realworld performance data to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and downforce while minimizing drag.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Collaborating with the manufacturing team to create prototypes for wind tunnel testing and subsequent on-track evaluations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining detailed documentation of designs, simulations, test results, and reporting progress and findings to the broader engineering team.
  • Keeping Up with Regulations: Staying updated with FIA regulations and guidelines to ensure designs comply with the governing body's rules.
  • Problem Solving: Addressing design challenges, troubleshooting issues, and proposing innovative solutions to improve aerodynamic performance within regulatory constraints.
  • Continuous Learning: Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in aerodynamics, materials, and manufacturing processes to enhance the overall performance of the car
