Technical Project Lead

At BOLD, we design and build the next generation of high-performance battery systems for the world’s most demanding industries — from Formula 1 and hypercars to aerospace, marine and defense. Our mission: to deliver energy systems where every millisecond and every degree matter.

The Technical Project Lead for Battery Design will play an integral role in bringing our batteries through design and into full production and delivery. They will support a talented and growing team of battery designers through the project gateways of multiple high-value battery design projects, including analysis and verification of initial specifications.

What You'll Do

Develop Battery System Requirements with a Safety Focus:

  • Define and develop high-voltage battery system requirements, with a particular emphasis on functional safety and compliance with international safety standards.
  • Lead the development of high- and low-voltage system architectures, ensuring that all safety-critical elements are addressed at both system and component levels.
  • Integrate safety considerations into the entire design process, including functional safety and hazard analysis, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), and fault tree analysis (FTA).

System Design and Architecture:

  • Oversee the development and validation of electro-thermal battery computational models to ensure that safety and performance requirements are met.
  • Define boundary conditions, input parameters, and interfaces for CAE activities, focusing on electrical, mechanical, and thermal integration.
  • Lead design reviews, safety analyses, and simulations to ensure that the system architecture meets all safety and performance criteria.

Cross-Functional Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of safety-critical systems.
  • Act as a key technical leader in cross-functional project teams, driving technical decisions and ensuring that safety considerations are prioritized throughout the product lifecycle.

About BOLD

At Bold, we’re a diverse, international team with backgrounds in automotive, motorsport, aerospace, defense and aviation.

We combine creativity and engineering rigour to deliver high-performance, safe and sustainable energy systems for the world’s most demanding applications.

We operate through two divisions:

  • BOLD Applied Engineering (BAE )– Provides top-tier professional engineering services, primarily to elite motorsport teams (especially Formula 1), in areas such as composite design, mechanical engineering, aerodynamics and systems integration. This expertise is transferred directly to complex defence sector programmes.
  • BOLD Technology (BT) – Designs, develops and manufactures high-voltage battery systems and electric propulsion system components for defence applications, tactical vehicles, military platforms, aviation and advanced mobility. BOLD is an international benchmark in defence electrification, supplying systems to United States Army programmes and collaborating with leading defence primes in the US and Europe.

Together, BT and BAE allow BOLD to offer a unique blend of technology, engineering services, and execution capability to elite customers operating at the highest levels of performance.
